WXR Weatherizes 10,000th Home
HOUSTON, Texas – (Nov. 7, 2011) - WXR, a Houston-based energy efficiency services provider, reached a significant milestone this month when staff weatherized their 10,000th home. Home weatherization consists of sealing home leaks and improving insulation, which helps save energy and money, and improves home comfort.
A majority of the 10,000 weatherized homes were completed through the City of Houston's Residential Energy Efficiency Program (REEP). As an approved contractor for the program, WXR experts provide low-income residents the opportunity to increase the energy efficiency of their homes, reduce energy use and gain financial independence through the installation of no-cost weatherization measures.
"The big success here is the improved lives of the thousands of families affected by this program," said Program Director Marc Fowler. "With a weatherized home at no-cost, program participants use less energy to heat and cool their homes, and they can redirect limited funds to other needs, such as food and medicine."
Weatherization measures include weather stripping, sealing leaks with caulk and foam sealant, and attic insulation. Weatherization typically only takes about two hours, although some homes require multiple visits. In return, homeowners or tenants save on average 12-15 percent in energy costs annually.
"We're celebrating this milestone, but we're not stopping any time soon," said CLEAResult Vice President David Dollihite. "We look forward to expanding services in Houston and building upon our success in other parts of the state and the U.S."
